Convert Apple HEIC photos to a universal format
Recent iPhones use HEIC because it can preserve excellent image quality at a smaller size than traditional JPEG. Compatibility is the trade-off: older software, upload forms, and some collaboration tools still expect JPG or PNG.
JPG or PNG?
Choose JPG for everyday photos, web uploads, and email attachments. Its adjustable quality makes files substantially smaller. Choose PNG when you need a lossless result for graphics, screenshots, or further editing. Converting a photograph to PNG usually creates a much larger file.
How local HEIC conversion works

- Choose JPG or PNG and set the quality when using JPG.
- The WebAssembly decoder runs in your tab and creates downloadable files. Process smaller batches if you reach a safety limit.
Privacy for personal photos
Family photos, identity documents, and location-sensitive images should not need a round trip through an unknown conversion server. VeloFile reads the source as a browser Blob and creates the output locally. Closing or clearing the workspace releases the generated object URLs.
Does conversion preserve the original HEIC file?
Yes. The source file is never modified; VeloFile creates a separate JPG or PNG download.
Can one HEIC contain multiple images?
Some HEIC containers include multiple frames. When the decoder returns more than one image, VeloFile exposes each result as a separate download.
What happens on older browsers?
The decoder requires a modern browser with WebAssembly, Blob, and Canvas support. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari are recommended.
